In this week’s INSIGHTS for Healing by Design, let’s give a moment to contemplating what actually matters in life as we go through perimenopause into post menopause.
I went through a period early this year where I was pondering all the WASTE in my life.
💥The hours I’ve spent looking at myself sideways in the mirror, sucking in my stomach, pushing it flatter and crying with self disgust.
💥Hours with obsessive inner discussion about what I choose to eat because I’m worried about what the scale will tell me every time I step on it.
💥The years wasted in destructive relationships with heartbreak after heartbreak with every rejection from those I thought might be good fits for me.
💥The sheer amount of time doom scrolling on my phone, getting lost in quick sound bites.
💥The money wasted on too many supplements to “fix” ills that need lifestyle shifts, not more pills.
💥The money and effort wasted on more and more certifications and working with gurus, wasting energy in comparison and working my ass off in a desperate attempt to “catch up” to their marketing prowess and to become a better practitioner for patients.
💥SO much time wasted stuck in old, conditioned behaviors, doing the same thing over and over yet desperately hoping for a new outcome!
In my mind, I heard…
“Change your dang thoughts, Krista.”
“Choose a new belief, Krista.”
”Use a vision board, Krista.”
”Chant affirmations, Krista.”
”Practicing morning meditations, Krista.”
”Eat like a bird, Krista.”
”Go out for a damn walk, Krista.”
”Read more books and research papers, listen to more podcasts, post more on social, Krista.”
SO MUCH TIME WASTED believing that I wasn’t “ENOUGH” in many ways. If I could just get a flatter stomach, weigh less, make more money, be more successful, get more acknowledgement…
THEN IT HIT ME around my 53rd birthday in March!⬇️
Some of my deeper early life conditioned beliefs, despite all the work I’ve done to rewrite many of them, still have subconscious influence to ensure I see evidence on repeat that I’m not enough even though I’ve accomplished a ton so far!
I sat with these deep feelings of lack and eventually came to realize I don’t have to regret any of the wasted time, money, effort of my life. Because it all got me here and here is really good! “Here”; my present reality, is my launch-pad to the next PIVOT in my life towards my intentionally envisioned future self!
If I hadn’t done this self-reflection a few months ago, I would have continued to “live by default” instead of what I preach, “Heal by Design”. I learned I don’t have to just apply this cool concept to my physical healing either, but I can choose to apply it to my inner dialogue healing too. (And neither do you, darlin’)
And that led to my revelation that I can CHOOSE to be an “ENOUGHIST”. (I know, I made this word up. But, gosh, it’s just so darn powerful, right?)
BE AN “ENOUGHIST”
At every single moment of every single day, I can always check in and ask if I’m operating to my highest level of capability in each moment; my 100% for that moment in time, and if so, it’s ENOUGH, no matter what society tells me I “should” measure success by. (Listen, “should” is the biggest curse word in the world, in my opinion…)
My inner yard stick varies in length depending on how much sleep I got, what fires I had to put out that day, how much movement I got in, time of year and time of day I’m trying to do something, if I had a negative reaction to a food or got tons of energy from my meals that day, and so on.
THIS IS BIG…
Being an “ENOUGHIST” has literally taken ALL the shame, guilt, pressure and chronic stress off my shoulders to live up to society’s expectations. I GET TO live up to my own expectations that are on a sliding scale.
This is important, darlin’, if you are a fellow woman in peri and post menopause right now. Our bodies are changing SO fff’ing much, so quickly, and so out of our control.
*You can’t out-supplement menopause.
*You can’t out-exercise menopause.
*You can’t out-medicate menopause.
*You can’t ignore menopause.
It’s a natural phase of a woman’s biological evolution. And truth be told, I believe menopause is a GENIUS move by biology! (But that’s a story for another article.)
HERE’S WHAT I DO NOW (and you can too)
I’m now working to remove the word WASTE from my lexicon as it is applied to anything other than physical garbage!
Instead, whenever I catch myself itching to buy another course or b!tch-slap myself for putting a bit of weight on again or doom scrolling on social or fearing what someone will think of me when I show up for my business online - my choice now is to take a moment to NOTICE the negative thought showing up, PAUSE, and ask myself “What belief is dictating this negative thought?” and the answer will be a new AWARENESS that can lead me to make a more CONSCIOUS CHOICE in the next moment.
Once I pivot and answer this question and become more aware in the moment, then I have an amazing opportunity to NOT buy the course unless I REALLY believe it will elevate a patient’s experience with me, NOT talk down to myself and instead do some squats to build my muscles (which, lady, will help you BEYOND in menopause)......
PRACTICE THIS ON REPEAT TO GET REAL-TIME RESULTS, FAST!
NOTICE negative thought ➡️ PAUSE ➡️ AWARENESS ➡️ CONSCIOUS CHOICE
is the path to cultivate your dearest dream
Menopause, dear one, can become viewed as a GIFT for us gals IF we do the work to shift how we interpret the world and do the daily mindful work to create a new way of existing. It sounds a little daunting, perhaps, but I guarantee you this becomes EASY with some guidance and practice!
Menopause can be an opportunity to remove old blinders to our potential as powerful women who can finally be the change we want to see in the world. But, it starts with a choice to dig in and evaluate our perceptions of our reality which is what I did to rid myself of those unwanted regrets about WASTE in my life.
(Remember, everyone has their own reality based on their interpretations of experiences in their own egocentric Universe. And what are those interpretations? Personal truths, not shared by everyone. They are stories we make up to make sense of our world. That thankfully means we can change those stories or at least interpret them differently so that we can then get new results.)
My wish for you, my friend, is to dig into your own old limiting ideals at this transition time of life, so that when (not if) hormones running amok can become the crucible in which you burn down old beliefs and come out like a Phoenix, blazing with new purpose and beliefs and creativity! POWERFUL stuff!
And if women do this together? Holy freakin’ moly, the world wouldn’t know what hit it! We’d create positive change that could change history for the good!
